Why am I not supposed to treat genital warts myself?

I have genital warts, and have been treating them myself at home using a combination of sallicylic acid, duct tape, and rubbing alcohol, and the results have been positive. Small warts have been destroyed, bigger ones are slowly decreasing in size. Very often in various readings, it is not recommended to treat genital warts at home, but that it is necessary to have them treated by a professional. Are there any serious risks involved with me treating them myself? What is the worst that can happen?

Your treating the outcome, and that very loosely and unsafe, not the cause, the HPV 1-2 that you have. First get at the source, then the treatment. I don’t know who started this crap with duct tap and alcohol, this is very unsafe and unsanitary. You can rip them off but, they will come back, maybe with a vengeance.
See your doctor and do it right and get an antibiotic for the cure.
I think they are talking about the ones that are on the inside.
Are you sure those are warts and not just moles?
They’re just making it up so they can have you come in more and pay them more money. It’s how the system works! Home treatment will do it for most things, and I suggest that you start having sex again as soon as the last visible wart is gone! It works great, and it isn’t contagious at all!

Risk of infection is a big one.
Also, since HPV (all types), is spread through skin contact, you might succeed in treating these only to discover you’ve spread it all over the area, and made it much worse in a few months.
Just pop them, NBD.
Do whats best for you. The worst can happen is that it wont go away and it can be spread with none protection sex.
First of all, to the one answerer *Antibiotics do not treat HPV*, HPV is a virus. The reason your not supposed to treat the warts yourself is because the products made for treating *common warts*, the warts you get on your hands and other parts of your body are too harsh for your genitals. It is best if you see a doctor for some *Aldara Cream* or treatment in the office. You are risking infection, and risking spreading the virus more than necessary. Just see a doctor, no need to be embarassed, they see this everyday. Very common virus.
The worst thing that could happen to you is that you could burn the surrounding skin from using acids. Been there done that too liberally and learned the hard way.
Other than that there is no reason.
Drug companies love to perpetuate the idea that having a condition in your genital area is much worse that having that same condition anywhere else on your body and because people accept that as fact, they fall for it and they buy their expensive products because they are under the false stigmatised impression that they should.
If you’re having great success at treating yourself, then more power to you. I used to treat myself too. Who has the time or money to keep going back to the doctors? I used acids, which I wouldn’t personally use again, and I’ve used over the counter freezing products, and I’ve cauterized them myself with a hot needle. They put up a great fight for many years, but I won in the end.
