I really need some help, and have a few questions about genital warts. Any women with personal experiences?
I'm pretty sure I've contracted HPV, because I've found 2 or 3 small flesh colored bumps down there and I'm pretty nervous about it. I have a GYN appointment on the 30th for my annual, and I'm going to get them to test for HPV along with the pap smear.
How much does it cost to treat genital warts? I do have insurance and it's usually copay per doctor's visit. Is that what I would pay?
What treatment options are there?
Does your immune system fight off HPV on it's own, or does it eventually just lie dormant in your body? I've heard both of those quite frequently and I'm not sure which to believe.
What can I expect?
Thanks so much
Note: I got a couple of rude answers on my last questions, which upset me a little because I'm in a really sensitive position with this and am looking for honest help, not to be criticized or insulted. ![]()
I love my boyfriend very much, and when he was diagnosed I was there for him, and he's ready to be there for me.

hi there. i have had genital warts for about a year now. I had them extensively due to not having health insurance. it was so bad that they refused to do surgery on me to remove them. One, it would burn most of my vavula (i would prob lose feeling there) two, it could come back anyway. so i was on three to four months worth of Aldara treatment which is a cream i had to use 2-3 times a week. worked great! but, now they have come back to haunt me.
When I saw my gynoceology surgeon he told me i had to quit smoking and start working out to keep my immune system in high gear. i never quit smoking and now i am suffering once again with an outbreak. smoking brings the immune system down therefore putting your body in more jeopardy of having an out break. Next friday I am getting back into the gym(had stop going to save a couple bucks but now i see why its worth it!) and i havent had a smoke since last sunday
I feel pretty good about it all too. I am glad that i didnt have the surgery. I mean can you imagine going through all that trouble for it only to come back?? i couldnt. i mean i was upset when he refused all b/c i seriously didnt recongize my own vagina..it was really bad! so needless to say go for the cream treatment…especially if its for only a few warts. Eat healthy and exercise!!
contact me if you have any questions.
i also have had herpes for about 6 years…i know im just an STD magnet!!!
BE glad that you have the warts and not the strain (hopefully you don’t) that can cause cervical cancer. In general the strains that cause warts don’t cause cervical cancer. The doc will check you for all strains though. It is ok! Your immune system will fight it off. Since it is a virus it never goes away but it will go into remission and not come out. Be thankful that it is only warts. Also, HPV is highly contagious so even if you use condoms you can still catch it so don’t feel bad like you did something wrong. (The same thing is true off herpes though so be careful).
As far as how much it costs to treat them, I think they can just freeze them off so it shouldn’t be too expensive. There is also a vaccine that you can look into if you are under 27. EVen though you already have a strain, Gardasil will vaccinate you against some of the other strains that are high risk for cervical cancer. Good luck and ignore all of those people who like to be jerks. They have nothing better to do with their life so don’t get angry or upset at them; just pity them because it IS pathetic.
